LETTERS OF SUPPORT - EL SALVADOR
Arcatao, Chalatenango
December 16, 2000

Dear women of Madison and Vietnam,

We send you warm greetings of solidarity. We are happy that almost nine years since the signing of the Peace Accords in our country, we are thinking about a meeting between the women of Vietnam and El Salvador. We believe that this meeting will be a mutual help to us and will affirm and strengthen the ties of friendship, sisterhood and solidarity between both people. Also, it will heal the wounds that the fratricidal conflict caused in both countries, strengthening the associations and union of women. We think that we ought to exchange our experiences of the types of organization and survival techniques during the armed conflicts in both countries, and what has happened with women since the war ("the reinsertion") to a new reality. Also, how we are actually organized and so improve our understanding and learn together from those experiences of each one of use and share knowledge and abilities for development such as community organization and solidarity between our three countries. We do not want to close this greeting without first reminding ourselves that solidarity is the general base of tenderness among people.

We thank God that you enabled us to meet Roy Mike, who in spite of his distinct reality, recognizes his error and has placed himself at our service, women who are exposed to struggle against all classes of discrimination that exist against women.

Hoping that in the near future we will get together to repudiate all kinds of armed conflict in the world; this would be one of those objectives that we could have together.

Sincerely,

Esperanza Ortega, President
