Greetings
Companeras Women’s Union of Quang Ngai Province

Dear Companeras,

The Association of the Women’s Movement Melida Anaya Montes, "Las Melidas" sends our warm greetings of friendship and solidarity. We wish you much success in all your important work for the integrated development of Vietnam women, along with the changes you are trying to make in the condition and position of women in society.

We know, through Mr. Roy Mike Boehm, about the project "Meeting Among Sisters". We consider it an opportunity for interchange and sharing of our experience, living situations, of our work and life. We believe this kind of activity is very positive and that it will help us have a more broad vision of the concrete situation of women in other countries of the world and establish ties of solidarity and friendship among our people.

Mister Boehm told us about what his organization does. That they have many projects, among them a program of micro credit which coincides with our group’s work in the area of Economic and Social Development, also, his interest in the situation in the Maquilas. He explained to us that in actuality the Maquilas only exist in the south of Vietnam, but that they might come someday to your province. For this reason, we would be very interested if a worker from one of the Maquilas in your southern Provinces could come to share her experience regarding this reality. But first, let us work with general information about the work we do in the area of Economic and Social Development and the Work of Women in Maquilas.

The heroic struggle of the Vietnamese people always has been an example for our people, keeping before us our struggle, giving us the strength to continue forward. Today as our people live in ostensible peace, women confront us with a new struggle, a struggle for our rights, to achieve gender equality, to change the patriarchal system that keeps us in subordination to men and enjoying fewer opportunities, a struggle to improve our quality of life. These are equal to past struggles that were very similar, and the best accompaniment is the solidarity that historically unites our people that is today expressed in our women in two parts of the world so far apart, but so united because of our histories.

We are very content that this project is happening that will allow us to know, in concrete ways, our struggle and difficulties to be able to recollect experiences and move ahead.

We look forward to this project with joy that we will share much friendship and experiences. We have the hope that it will initiate a strong link of solidarity, support and solidarity between Salvadoran women and the women of Vietnam, specifically with the women of Quang Ngai. We are sending general information about our work in the areas of women’s work in Maquilas and in Economic Development.

We wish you happiness and success in all the work that you want to achieve, and we also send you positive energy in all things.

Hoping that we will soon meet each other, I am
Sincerely yours,
Rosibel Flores,
Executive Director
